SHAPE
Web: www.shape.dh.gov.uk/
Stand: 56
Strategic Health Asset Planning and Evaluation (SHAPE) a web enabled, evidence based application which informs and supports the strategic planning of services and assets across a whole health economy. Its scenario planning features help service commissioners determine the service configuration that provides the best affordable access to care.
SHAPE links clinical analyses, public health, primary care and demographic data with healthcare estates performance and facilities location. The application includes GIS mapping and supports travel time analysis. SHAPE contains data for England currently configured at SHA, PCT and GP consortia levels.
SHAPE provides information to both commissioners and providers on quality indicators such as pre-operative stay, the proportion of day case procedures, excess lengths of stay, multiple admissions and weekend discharging and its clinical database can identify hospital care that may be more appropriately delivered in other settings closer to patients’ homes, Thus underpinning the national priority of Transforming Community Services.
SHAPE also contains QoF Indicators and can highlight the performance of individual practices in a simple visual way.
In relation to Public Health, SHAPE contains information that can be used by PCTs, GP commissioning Consortia and Local Authorities to support Joint Strategic Needs Assessments and to identify local priorities for health improvement.
SHAPE can help to improve service access by providing detailed population and needs profiles of service catchment areas and can also help to determine the optimum location for new facilities, and assess the service access implications of new housing development proposals.
